Political System
The DRC is a unitary semi-presidential republic, headed by President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, elected on 30 December 2018 in the country's first peaceful transfer of executive power. The legislature is bicameral, comprising the National Assembly (lower house) and the Senate (upper house). The country is divided into 26 provinces.

Recent Diplomatic Highlights
SADC Presidency Transition
President Tshisekedi passed the SADC chairmanship to Angola's João Lourenço at the 43rd SADC Summit, highlighting regional solidarity in deploying a mission to support efforts against the M23 armed group.
CEEAC Summit, Libreville
President Tshisekedi took part in the 23rd CEEAC conference in Gabon, discussing regional integration financing and the conflict with Rwanda in the eastern DRC.
National Identity Card Initiative
On the 63rd anniversary of independence, President Tshisekedi received the first prototype of a new national identity card from ONIP — a modernisation effort in progress since 1984.
