International Francophonie Day 2026
The Embassy took part in the International Francophonie Day celebration at the French Institute in Tokyo, showcasing Congolese culture, coffee and cacao to diplomats and French-language learners.
The celebration of the 2026 International Day of Francophonie took place on Sunday, March 15 at the French Institute in Tokyo. The event brought together diplomats, learners of the French language, and enthusiasts of Francophone cultures to discover the cultures of participating nations.
The Democratic Republic of Congo distinguished itself through a booth showcasing the diversity of its cultural heritage and its economic potential, alongside local products including coffee and cacao.
Ambassador Lukumwena Nsenda engaged with numerous French language learners, discussing Congolese agriculture, gastronomy, the Sape movement, and traditional attire. These conversations fostered a deeper understanding of Congolese realities among the Japanese public.
A literary workshop featured Congolese authors Mukadi Ilunga Christian and Matusisa Nginamau Jean-Marc, offering audiences meaningful discussions about Congolese literature and creative expression.
The day concluded with official speeches emphasising the importance of the Francophonie as a space for dialogue, cooperation and the promotion of cultural diversity — embodying the values of sharing, openness and solidarity central to the organisation.
