Official Visit of the SADC Executive Secretary to Tokyo
A SADC delegation led by Executive Secretary Elias M. Magosi, joined by ambassadors from the DRC, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe, held a four-day official visit to Japan to advance regional cooperation.
From December 8–11, 2025, a SADC delegation led by Executive Secretary Elias M. Magosi conducted a four-day official visit to Japan, marked by ambitious and forward-looking meetings.
The delegation included ambassadors from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe stationed in Japan.
The mission presented SADC's strategic initiatives, including plans through 2050 and the 2063 agenda marking the organisation's centenary. Delegations exchanged structuring ideas and explored concrete pathways leading to future cooperation agreements.
Discussions centred on implementing TICAD 9 commitments with tangible outcomes. Key topics included strengthening regional connectivity through transport corridors, prioritising the energy and water sectors, responsible use of mining resources for development, and acquiring Japanese expertise in ICT, infrastructure, and capacity building.
The visit demonstrated mutual commitment to advancing collaboration, with emphasis on encouraging Japanese entrepreneurship and greater private sector involvement across SADC nations.
